Rabbi Halina Rubinstein

Progressive, Spiritual Guidance and Leadership - Westchester NY

Join Me at Hebrew Congregation of Somers

I have big news!

I will be starting this summer, in July 2016, as Rabbi at the Hebrew Congregation of Somers (HRC).

HRC is among of Northern Westchester’s best-run Reconstructionist synagogues — and I am excited to join the community as the first woman — and the first Mexican — Rabbi.

Very importantly, Hebrew Congregation of Somers is inclusive and welcome of both interfaith and LGBT individuals, couples and families — and provides excellent progressive, egalitarian Hebrew and religious school education for children and adults.

So come and join us for services, and to learn!

HRC is located in ]Somers, and is easily reached from Yorktown Heights, Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, Mahopac, Carmel,  North Salem, Katonan, Bedford, Mt. Kisco, and Golden’s Bridge.  You can learn more about HRC here and get directions here.

I’ll see you in Shul!

Resources

Here are some online resources for Jewish education and self-study.  Remember — if you have any questions, you can always contact me.

For Self-lead Study and Exploration

TheTorah.com

Project TABS  (Torah And Biblical Scholarship) is an educational reso founded to energize the Jewish people by integrating the study of the Torah and other Jewish texts with the disciplines and findings of academic scholarship.

Project TABS is unique: As of now, there is no other Jewish website or organization dedicated to academic biblical scholarship and there are few divrei torah that incorporate critical scholarship in a constructive, religiously meaningful way.  These are fantastic resources for anyone seeking a progressive, multicultural approach to Torah study.

For Jewish Education

Academy for Jewish Religion

Since its founding in 1956 as a rabbinical school, the Academy for Jewish Religion (AJR) has been at the forefront of pluralistic rabbinic and cantorial training.

Academy for Jewish Religion is unique because it is the only institution that prepares professionals to represent the full spectrum of the Jewish community.  Unlike any other center for religious study, the AJR curriculum respectfully spans the broad range of Judaism, its practices and teachings — and its faculty and students cross denominational lines.

My Upcoming Congregation

Hebrew Congregation of Somers

Join me at  the Hebrew Congregation of Somers (HCS) — a deconstructionist temple in Somers, NY where we keep Jewish traditions — but challenge and question the ideas.

Starting this summer, I will be leading services along with  Cantor Ruth Ossher — and will feature an informal atmosphere with a mixture of English and Hebrew.  Expect lots of music, discussion and food!  Also, in addition to services, we stress learning — and so children, teens and adults all break off to study in small groups with individually paced study sessions.
